144 Pre-Phonic Cards
From their ‘mother tongue’ – or, first language – children learn everyday vocabulary which is frequently spoken around them. First, by listening, then by repeating the sound and rhythm of each word in connection to its meaning. This spoken awareness of any language forms a key foundation prior to tackling the literacy challenges of reading and writing.
Phonics for second language learners is quickly discouraging when the meaning of words is not established.
Though the Sounds ’n’ Stories programme offers good contextual support to second language learners – on our DVDs – our Pre-Phonics Cards are a great way to gently prepare for the ‘Elephant Series’ stories, songs and related reading and writing exercises. We’ve also organised the cards into 12 typical themes to fit them into your children’s regular curriculum.
